Activity-based working (ABW) is by now a well-known organisational structure within many businesses. Australia’s largest health insurer Medibank wanted to go beyond conventional ABW to create a Health-Based Working environment – one that places the mental and physical health of employees at its heart.
As well as giving employees the freedom to choose how and where they work, with 26 types of work settings, the Medibank office at Bourke Street incorporates thousands of plants, an ‘edible garden’ and a multi-purpose sports court. Contributing to this office fitout and end-of-trip (EOT) facilities was a major project for Lockin. In all 3096 lockers were installed across 10 levels plus the basement located EOT.
The office fitout comprised banks of our H4 locker model, customised with a mail chute and acrylic nameplate plus the Gantner smart lock system. These lockers were finished with a gloss powder-coated shroud. For the EOT fitout, we installed our PL2 ‘wave door’ lockers with full height hanging and storage space. Our parent company ISM also created contrasting colour surrounds and mobile cabinet units to complete the environment.
An interesting feature of this project was the construction of an entire prototype floor prior to the fitout, giving our client the chance to experience the look and feel of the installation prior to the final sign off.
