As part of the Royal Melbourne Hospital’s award-winning redevelopment at 31 Elizabeth Street, this six-level upgrade delivers modern clinical and office spaces designed to promote a calm, secure, and efficient working environment.
Guided by biophilic design principles, the interiors feature natural materials, soft organic forms, and a muted colour palette—minimising the traditional institutional feel while supporting the wellbeing of staff, patients, and visitors.
We contributed to this transformative project with the delivery of a fully integrated, hardwired smart locker system tailored to the hospital’s dynamic, shift-based workforce. The flexible, non-allocated setup allows staff to book and access lockers as needed—eliminating the need for fixed 1:1 assignments and increasing operational efficiency.
Locker banks are thoughtfully placed near lift lobbies and shared zones for optimal accessibility. Finished in Polytec’s Tasmanian Oak Woodmatt and Laminex’s Peruvian Clay, the lockers seamlessly align with the interior’s warm, cohesive design palette.
All 1,100 of these H4 lockers are equipped with Yellowbox hardwired locks, integrated with the hospital’s existing RFID access cards. This provides secure, contactless access while simplifying user management.
This smart locker solution directly supports the hospital’s broader goals—enhancing user experience, streamlining day-to-day operations, and contributing to a wellness-focused healthcare environment.
