For us, our work for the Ernst & Young (E&Y) office upgrade at 8 Exhibition Street was the very definition of a customised project. Together with the project architect Hassell, we overcame a variety of design and installation challenges to produce a highly functional and attractive storage solution for the Melbourne based E&Y team.
The office fitout was a sizeable one – comprising of 1,850 H3 lockers over multiple levels. The tailor-built lockers were customised to be wider than our standard size to fit the E&Y activity-based working tubs. They feature a timber laminate finish that was grain matched with the bulkheads and kickers. Although Lockin has a standard 20mm mail chute, we discovered the standard sizing of E&Y folders was actually 30mm, so we quickly needed to create a new version of our product to incorporate this feature. Other custom features included locker numbering, business card holders on each door, and a Combi-Cam Ultra combination lock.
Another key feature of the customisation was designing an alcove within the locker bank to house an electronic kiosk. The kiosk screen is a key facility for E&Y’s activity-based work teams, acting as both a wayfinding device as well as a booking center for rooms, hot desks, and lockers.
While there were challenges within this project, custom made is what we do best. Repeat work from our client on this project is a testament to Lockin’s reputation for flexibility and capability, and a commitment to deliver the right products on spec, on time and on budget.
